Personal Counseling

What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality.

I enjoy the art and science of my work as a psychotherapist. It is a privilege to be of service and I respect the unique nature of each person I meet with. Life can bring difficulties and discovering more effective ways to meet those challenges is a transformative journey. My style is positive and direct. I am an active, engaged therapist. I provide a safe place in which, together, we can develop a deeper understanding of the issues at hand, create a practical treatment plan, implement changes, learn new skills and assess the results. Increasing self awareness and right action can bring great rewards.

My training is extensive and ongoing. My undergraduate coursework included psychology; my graduate and post-graduate education continued this specialization. My areas of emphasis include psychodynamic psychotherapy (how our families of origin affect us growing up), Jungian psychology (special appreciation for our psyche, or soul), and cognitive behavioral psychology (a goal oriented systematic approach to problem-solving). I have added additional certifications in executive coaching, critical incident stress debriefing, mediation, substance abuse recovery and hypnotherapy. My own meditation practice as well as my spiritual training in Buddhist psychology has strengthened my belief in our ability to access a place of greater self awareness. I also hold a California state teaching credential and have taught parent education, effective communication and cinematherapy to a wide range of participants.
